Flashback is the second box set compilation by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), released in 2000. In 2000, Jeff Lynne found a new impetus to work on the music of his old band and returned to the recording studio to work on an ELO project for the first time in some 15 years just prior to the comeback album Zoom in 2001. This work resulted in a digitally remastered compilation released in late 2000. Unlike its predecessors, this project, Flashback, was personally approved and endorsed by Lynne. The set includes songs featured from all 11 studio albums up to that point, including an edit of "Great Balls of Fire" from their live album The Night the Light Went On in Long Beach, plus some new recordings amongst the band's extensive back catalog, most notably a reworking of Lynne's only UK number one hit "Xanadu". The album includes liner notes by David Wild with quotes on each song from Lynne and a booklet inside.

For many, Les McCann Sings, revealed the pianist as a vocalist with something to say – which does less than justice to McCann’s work here, both vocally and pianistically. Singing with great individuality and warmth, his style combines the direct, emotional, and very communicative with an amazingly florid approach in all kind of moods, but mostly on ballads, as is the case on the lovely It’s Way Past Suppertime.

The end of the 60s was an important period in jazz, as well as rock music, in Poland and the rest of the world, with the development of many styles and trends in popular music. In 1970 the jazz rock fusion band, Laboratorium was formed in Kraków. Their music soon developed in jazz rock fusion, and so were pioneers in this music in Poland. In their first years, Laboratorium's music was acoustic, cleverly avoiding any limiting definitions. At the beginning of the 70's there was very limited access to Western recordings but this did not prove an obstacle for the band, because of the musicians searching and experimenting in the field. On the contrary and because of their relative isolation, Laboratorium developed an unique sound which was often noted in various critical reviews…

Although Charlie Byrd recorded dozens of quality albums, the 1960s weren't one of his best decades. Although his guitar work was excellent, as always, it tended to get buried in awkward arrangements of the latest Beatles' songs. As a result, his music often sounded cheesy. It's a rare pleasure, then, to listen to Solo Flight, which was recorded for Riverside in 1965. With no distracting accompaniment, Byrd cuts to the musical chase and delivers 11 lovely, succinct guitar suites. He combines a smooth blend of chords and solo runs, much as Joe Pass would later do, on favorites like "Satin Doll" and "Easy Living," along with fun oddities like "House of the Rising Sun." Unlike Pass, Byrd approaches a song like "Am I Blue" in a fairly simple, straightforward manner, more interested in the melody than virtuosity…

The City of Derby is inextricably rich in railway history - it was Midland Railway's headquarters after all. Not exactly 'Grand Music Central', yet Saturday, 8 April 1995 saw 29 year-old Andy Pickford launching his new 'contemporary instrumental electronic music' album, "Maelstrom", with an ambitious concert at Derby Cathedral. This event was well attended by over 400 people.
Pickford himself cites as artistic influences artists such as Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, The Orb, Boards of Canada, and various progressive rock bands…

Music Box is the third studio album by American singer Mariah Carey. During the course of the album's development, Carey wanted to broaden her audience, choosing a more pop/R&B oriented sound. Four singles were released from the album. The first three, "Dreamlover", "Hero" and "Without You", became worldwide chart-topping singles. Carey was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Dreamlover" at the 1994 Grammy Awards and received the same nomination for "Hero" at the 1995 Grammy Awards.Despite some unfavorable reviews, the album became a commercial success, topping the Billboard 200 and becoming Carey's first number-one album in Australia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Music Box remains Carey's highest seller with 32 million copies sold worldwide and is one of the best-selling albums of all time.

This sequel to Saturday Night Fever lacked the box office clout of the original, and the soundtrack album was likewise a disappointing seller, but it actually contains some of the better Bee Gees work of the 80s, notably the sad ballad "Someone Belonging to Someone."

One of those real rare hard rock group often considered as heavy progressive, Jenghiz Khan produced one sole album that is now a highly-priced collectible item. With an amazing cartoon-like gatefold cover of the Great Conqueror having cut the group member's heads, this obscure quartet is also the start of bassist Rapsat's lengthy career (he had recorded with another "prog" group Laurelie the same year) as a French-speaking rock singer/songwriter. The album is the hard rock that one can expect from the era with an amateur trait, but also some undeniable progressive tendencies. The album has received a CD issue sometime ago and is now most likely scarce also. ~ Hugues Chantraine, Belgium

After an unsatisfying run at Columbia Records – partially stifled due to ramifications of World War II – the Bailes Brothers signed with King in 1946 and set about recording a series of seminal bluegrass sessions. Bear Family reissued these in two separate sets: Remember Me, which covers 1946, and Standing Somewhere in the Shadows, which covers 1953 and beyond (they had previously chronicled the Columbia recordings). On Remember Me, the fruits of their weekend-long session in late summer/early fall of 1946 are presented in their entirety.

A large improvement over her previous set, this outing by veteran singer Dakota Staton finds her in excellent form. The repertoire is mostly comprised of veteran standards, highlighted by "Isn't This a Lovely Day," "Cold Cold Feeling," "The Masquerade Is Over" and a medley of "I'll Close My Eyes" and "Close Your Eyes." Staton uses her vibrato more sparingly than on her previous (and weaker) Muse release Darling Please Save Your Love for Me, and there is much more variety in these arrangements. Assisted by either Bross Townsend or Norman Simons on piano and a fine rhythm section, Staton is also joined on various tracks by Rob Paparozzi's harmonica, saxophonist Peter Loeb and guitarist George Naha.
